BBQ is My Addiction

I'm a Police Sergeant who got into BBQ around 2019. My first charcoal smoker was a Kamado Joe. From there it turned into a BBQ addiction. I love cooking for my family and friends. I've done catering for several large parties and events. I've also participated in BBQ competitions. I enjoy the BBQ craft itself and it truly takes a passion. Whether I'm cooking in the cold and rain or the heat, it doesn't bother me. Nothing beats that feeling of preparing food that impresses your family and friends.

To be a part of Kamado Joe has been my dream from the first time I started cooking. I absolutely love using my KJ and continue to recommend it as the best all around cooker.

What advice would you give to someone new to grilling?
My advice would be to don’t get so stuck on set times. Often you’ll see people talk about how ribs, chicken, brisket will finish around a certain hour mark. Though it may be a guideline, it’s not always the case. It goes off the temperature and feeling of the meat. That’s something that took me time to realize and understand. Don’t cook off time, cook off of the temperature and feeling of the meat.
What is your favorite grilling technique that you've learned and why?
My favorite grilling technique is the two-zone fire. It’s always best to have a hot zone and cool zone. Whether you’re grilling steak or chicken, it’s always best to have that cool zone so you don’t burn the meat.
What is your favorite recipe?
Pumpkin Spice Whiskey Ribs. Made them in the fall season and by far the best ribs I’ve made. The flavors pair perfectly together.
