FAQ

How do you reuse Kamado Joe charcoal?
Reusing leftover lump charcoal is a great option. After using charcoal in your kamado grill, wait until it is completely cooled off, before stirring up the used charcoal with your ash tool, so that the ashes fall through the bottom fire grate. You will have far less ash with lump charcoal than with briquettes! Always make sure that the air holes in the fire grate are not blocked with small pieces of charcoal residue.

Top off the old charcoal with some new charcoal as needed. Make sure to empty the ask tray before your next cook.
What is the benefit of lump charcoal over briquettes?
Lump charcoal is made by slowly burning real pieces of wood in an airtight area until all the natural chemicals, sap, and moisture leave the wood. All that’s left is pure charcoal. Lump charcoal responds really well to oxygen, so you can easily control the heat using your air vents and chimney. Briquettes take longer to respond to airflow which leaves you with less control on a long cook and produce more ash that will restrict airflow. Lump is also the most natural fuel for your grill.

Additional benefits of our grilling charcoal are:
  • - All-natural fuel
  • - Burns hotter
  • - Lights quickly
  • - Easier to adjust the temperature
  • - Better smoke for better flavor
  • - Re-usable
How do you light Kamado Joe charcoal?
Use a natural fire starter like Kamado Joe fire starters. Never use lighter fluid!
